Mission statement

East Side Baptist Church exists to give direction for life by making, maturing, and mobilizing followers of Christ to transform our community and our world for His glory.

What we Believe

God

We believe in the Holy Trinity.  God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  God is worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love. (I Corinthians 8:6)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

  1. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is God, became a man without ceasing to be God.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary so that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men. (Galatians 4:4, Matthew 1:18-25, John 1:1-3)
  2. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through his death on the cross.  Our eternal life has been made possible by his resurrection from the dead.  We believe that He is our great High Priest, and we can go directly to God’s throne by prayer in the name of Jesus Christ. (Galatians 4:5, John 14:3)
  3. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again in Person, bodily and visibly to rapture his Church.  We believe that following this rapture of the Church, a seven year period of tribulation will be experienced by all mankind.  After the tribulation period, Christ will establish his millennial kingdom on earth. (I Thessalonians 4:16-17, Matthew 24:21, Revelation 20:1-6)

Sin

We believe that sin is classified as any action contrary to God and His Word.  We also believe that Adam, the father of the human race, made a choice to sin.   Although man was created in the image of God, mankind has inherited a sin nature.  Because of sin, man’s relationship with God was broken.  Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life. (Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by God’s grace through our faith in Jesus Christ.  The decision to trust Jesus Christ as Savior is the greatest decision one will ever make.  God does not make us perfect at salvation but does make us a member of His family.  That relationship is eternal and secure in Christ forever. (Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 John 1:9)

Baptism

We believe that scriptural baptism is commanded and is an encouragement to the believer and a witness to the world of the individual’s changed life.  Baptism takes place after an individual’s salvation.  We believe that Scripture clearly teaches baptism by immersion. (Romans 6:3-5)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that at the moment of an individual’s salvation, the Holy Spirit of God takes up permanent residency inside the body.  The Holy Spirit seals our salvation, comforts us in time of need, and empowers us to serve God. (I Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 3:16)

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God.  The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

The Church

We believe the local church has been commissioned by God to carry out His purposes in reaching the lost and perfecting the saved.  God’s plan for a Christian will always be fulfilled best when connected with the local church.  (Acts 2:41-47)

Giving

We believe that every Christian, as a steward of that portion of God’s wealth entrusted to him, is obligated to support his local church financially.  We believe that God has established the tithe as a basis for giving, but that every Christian should also give other offerings sacrificially and cheerfully to the support of the church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the Gospel worldwide. (Malachi 3:10, 2 Corinthians 9:7)
